Boaters Find 625k Of Cocaine Off Florida Coast Reminiscent Of Square Grouper Marijuana Smuggling Days

Cocaine Worth $625,000 Found Floating in Gulf of Mexico

Boaters Make Uncommon Discovery

Boaters in southwest Florida made an extraordinary discovery on Monday when they stumbled upon a package containing over $625,000 worth of cocaine floating in the Gulf of Mexico.

Authorities in Collier County, where the discovery was made, expressed surprise at the find, which they said is unusual for the present day but reminiscent of the so-called "cocaine cowboys" era of the 1980s.

The boaters alerted law enforcement after spotting the microwave oven-sized package floating in the water. The package contained 56 pounds of cocaine.

Estimated Value and Significance

The estimated street value of the seized cocaine is approximately $625,000.

According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, the find is a reminder of the ongoing drug smuggling activity in the region.

In 2012, Hurricane Debby brought ashore over $16 million worth of cocaine onto Florida beaches.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities are currently investigating the origin of the cocaine and the individuals involved in its smuggling.

The discovery serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in combating drug trafficking and the need for continued efforts to disrupt criminal organizations involved in this illicit activity.
